‘Fashionista Foxy’ goes XXL on the autumn wardrobe

“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load and bless; With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees; And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core; to swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells; With a sweet kernel; to set budding more, And still more, later flowers for the bees, Until they think warm days will never cease, For summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.”

Sometimes, just sometimes, you can’t beat a bit of good ol’ Keats to start seasonal musings (it also means I don’t have to write so much, either).

So, with the Autumn Equinox behind us, I am looking forward to hunkering down with my “swelled gourds” and “plump hazel shells” as well as buying a new Autumn wardrobe.

Luckily for you girls, I have been scouring ALL the fashion media – so you don’t have to – to discover what’s in and what’s out. They don’t call me Fashionista Foxy XXL for nothing you know (I blame all that cheese I have been stuffing down my gullet). Even Primark and George at Asda have chipped in a few quid for me to give them a plug.

And, I’m pleased to say that for those who haven’t been able to witness sisters sashaying on the catwalk, the big news for those who can get into standard sizing is that the utilitarian “gimmick” look is so last year.

Over-the-top puff-sleeve jackets and utility vests that cluttered your wardrobes in 2025 are out and fashion is pivoting toward sleek, aerodynamic sporty jackets and tailored outerwear with cleaner, less bulky lines, apparently.

Meanwhile, faded, light-wash denim and heavily ripped or distressed jeans are pausing for the season. They lean a bit too much into a casual, 1990s normcore vibe that feels less intentional. They say the definitive move this autumn is toward rich, saturated indigo washes and deep dark denim, which instantly elevate even a simple T-shirt and loafers.

Finally, clunky, ultra-rounded shoes and loud, shouting footwear are also being retired. The current aesthetic embraces square-toe shoes and boots for an eclectic yet sleek structure, alongside quiet, luxury-leaning deep chocolate suede footwear.

Personally, of course, I will be sporting tracky b’s and loose tops but hey, don’t let that stop you!
