Clubcard chief Crook joins Wickes

Clubcard chief Crook joins WickesDIY retailer and building trade supplier Wickes has recruited former Tesco Clubcard chief Ian Crook as marketing director of the Travis Perkins Group company.
Having started his career at M&S, Crook joined Tesco in 1996 as marketing manager for Tesco Stores. He quickly moved up the ranks and became UK marketing director in 2005, responsible for all brand communications including TV advertising and in-store promotions.
In 2007, Crook switched to become marketing director of Tesco.com, where he led a team of 150 staff and was responsible for Clubcard, customer insight and planning, digital marketing and online operations and development. He left the business in August.
In joining the team at Wickes, Crook will work to strengthen the retailer’s customer-centric approach and multichannel strategy. Ironically, given his background, Wickes scrapped its MyCard loyalty programme two years ago to plough more money into price cuts. The company’s data strategy is run by Engine Group company Fuel.
Wickes managing director Simon King said: “Ian brings to Wickes more than 20 years’ high-level marketing experience, and we are confident that under his leadership, Wickes will thrive as a truly multichannel retailer and trade supplier. Putting customers at the centre of all we do has long been the focus here at Wickes, and with Ian’s appointment, the development of a sector-leading online and multichannel strategy, which further exceeds customer expectations, is now within our sights.”
