Former creative chief Mike Cavers is aiming to prove there is life after direct marketing by setting up a “brocanteur” business in France, buying and selling second-hand goods.
Cavers stepped down from WDMP in December 2017 after a career which spanned over 40 years and saw him lead the creative teams at some of the industry’s leading agencies, including Limbo, Payne Stracey, TBWA/H Europe Amsterdam, Publicis Dialog, Chemistry Communications and The Marketing Store.
After a few months off to “recharge his batteries”, Cavers has been working as a creative consultant for the past two years but now has “side hustle” business Brochunter, being run out of his French home in Nontron, in the Dordogne region.
The business is being positioned as more “Lovejoy” than “Dell-boy” and recently unveiled its “social media strategy” through Facebook.
One industry insider said: “From junk mailer to junk dealer, what’s not to like? With Mike’s Celtic charm and nose for a bargain, he could go far…Let’s just hope this budding venture does not get scuppered by Brexit.”
