The Government is launching a major marketing blitz in an effort to change the way people protect themselves while shopping, banking or socialising online in order to avoid falling victim to cyber criminals.
The “Cyber Streetwise” campaign, devised by M&C Saatchi, aims to change the way people view online safety and provide the public and businesses with the skills and knowledge they need to take control of their cyber security. The campaign includes a new easy-to-use website and online videos.
The push, with initial funding from the Government’s National Cyber Security Programme, is being backed by a number of private sector partners including Sophos, Facebook, RBS Group, and Financial Fraud Action UK.
With more than 11 million Internet-enabled devices received as gifts during the Christmas period, people are encouraged to protect themselves and their families online by visiting the website, www.cyberstreetwise.com, where they can find “five essential tips” as well as other advice.
M&C Saatchi Group chairman Tim Duffy said: “This campaign represents one of the most relevant public information campaigns of our time. In cyberstreetwise.com we have created a campaign idea that is as flexible as it is powerful. The success of the campaign will be more and more people in Britain knowing how to be secure online and as a consequence helping to build an even stronger British economy.”
