McCann to ‘swoop on Meteorite’

McCann Worldgroup is reportedly in talks to buy independent direct marketing agency Meteorite and merge it with MRM London.
Reports claim the deal could be completed as early as next week, with management – MRM London chief executive Mike Cornwell, Meteorite chairman Hugh Bishop and managing director Debbie Smith – likely to join forces.
MRM accounts include General Motors, BSkyB and Johnson & Johnson, while Meteorite, works for the likes of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Homebase and Costa Coffee.
Meteorite was founded 12 years ago and employs around 70 staff. Before launching the agency, Bishop held senior marketing positions at Levi’s and Burton Group, while Smith was the managing director of WPP’s integrated agency PCG.
According to Meteorite’s company blurb, “Curiosity runs through everything we do like the words in a stick of rock. It’s our benchmark for recruitment. It drives our thinking. And it makes us examine every angle of our clients’ business and their customers. That’s how we get the valuable insights which lead to better work.”
Last month, McCann acquired the interactive design agency AllofUs, which retained its name but now sits within the McCann London building.
