Ogilvy One appoints trio to head UK leadership team

Ogilvy One has installed a new leadership team following the promotion of Clare Lawson to global president and just 12 months after the agency was resurrected to bring it back in line with founder David Ogilvy’s status as “one of the true, original direct marketers”.

Charlie Ryder and Alan Makepeace have been promoted to joint managing directors, while Ed Turner joins as head of strategy from EssenceMediaCom.

Ryder has been instrumental in driving creatively led direct marketing activations for brands including Sainsbury’s, while Makepeace has served as a global lead on JDE Peet’s and Philips.

Meanwhile, Turner led strategy at EssenceMediaCom across Europe for The Coca-Cola Company’s specialist agency WPP Studio X, which Ogilvy UK also partners.

All three will report into Ogilvy group UK CEO James Murphy.

The trio will complete the UK team which includes the creative leadership of ECDs Angus George and Johnny Watters. They will now each be tasked with growing Ogilvy One’s approach to customer experience, which currently offers a range of services spanning customer acquisition, service design and continuous commerce and CRM and loyalty.

James Murphy said: “Charlie and Alan’s expertise, energy and passion made them the natural choices to lead Ogilvy One in the UK. They’re a great partnership to build on the momentum the brilliant Clare Lawson has given Ogilvy One.”

Clare Lawson added: “In 12 short months since Ogilvy One returned we have built palpable momentum putting creativity back at the heart of the customer engagement category.

“The UK is a powerhouse for the global business and our growth, so I’m extremely pleased to be handing over to a talented trio who have such complimentary skills, including bringing Ed’s media and integrated planning background into our team.

“Together they will help us continue to elevate the power of emotional connection and innovation in customer engagement.”
