Spicer ditches Pulse for B Street

Pulse stops for Spicer as B Street beckonsFormer Arc Worldwide and EHS Brann chief Mike Spicer is going back to his roots by quitting Pulse Group to join integrated and shopper marketing agency B Street as managing director.
He had been chief executive of Pulse Group since November 2010, during which time the agency brought in a number of new clients including Morrisons, Rubicon, Westons Cider, JVC, Argos and Intercontinental Hotels.
Spicer was instrumental in appointing Rapp creative duo Magnus Thorne and Paul Turner, who left last November to head up Oliver’s creative output for Google. He also hired former COI deputy director of direct marketing Daniel Pallet, who joined Table 19 earlier this month.
In his new role, Spicer has been briefed to build on existing client relationships and turn the business, launched in 2008, into a major player in the UK market.
B Street chief executive David Ploughman said: “We selected Mike after an extended search as we felt the agency needed someone with significant experience.”
Spicer started his career at IMP in 1989 as an account executive, when John Farrell was managing director. He went on to become managing director of IMP’s successor Arc in 1993, but left after a restructure of the business instigated by Bruce Haines, then chairman and chief executive of the Leo Burnett group in London.
Spicer had a spell as chairman of Media Square’s marketing division, before joining Havas Helia EHS Brann (then EHS Brann) in July 2008.
He commented: “My heart and experience lie very much in the wider world of integrated communications, so it seemed an appropriate time to consider my future.
“This is a business that has real ambition – we’re looking to capitalise on our success in North America as well as make our mark here in the UK.”
