Armed forces personnel are being offered the chance to transition to civilian technology careers with a new deal providing them with training and certifications in data analytics.
The partnership between charity TechVets, which provides a bridge to careers in tech and data specialist Alteryx, comes amid continuing industry skills shortage.
Figures from the Government’s National Data Strategy recorded more than 100,000 digital and data roles vacant in back in 2019. However, it appears that the situation is even worse now, with the digital skills gap is affecting two-thirds of UK firms.
The new scheme will run under the existing Alteryx SparkED free education programme through which participants receive a free Alteryx Designer licence, interactive learning paths, and access to the Alteryx community to guide their training.
TechVets director James Murphy said: “We have a significant issue with underemployment in the forces community. Many of those leaving the military every year move into employment that does not make use of the in-demand skills they have developed during their military service.
“TechVets is a programne with a mission to create a bridge into information technology careers for the forces community, and this cannot be achieved alone. I’m extremely excited to be partnering with the Alteryx SparkED program, so we can shape the future of employment for all our veterans and their families.”
Alteryx co-founder and chief advocacy officer Olivia Duane Adams explained that the firm was “thrilled” to help drive the analytics movement in the UK through partnering with TechVets.
She added: “With the new partnership, we will be able to help companies close the analytics skills gap and boost data literacy in their organisations while simultaneously supporting service members into the next phase of their careers whether that be in supply chain management, resource forecasting, human resources, or something else entirely.
“Our goal is to provide comprehensive data science education, as well as hands-on training with Alteryx, so veterans and active duty service members can transform data into business insights with employable skills now.”
