Data is king as Maxus hands strategy role to Steer

alex steerFurther proof that data expertise is being coveted by brands and agencies alike has emerged with WPP media agency Maxus UK promoting analytics chief Alex Steer to the newly created role of chief strategy officer.

Steer joined the agency in 2015 as head of technology, data and effectiveness, leading a team of six analysts and working across a range of clients.

Since then Steer has developed and launched Maxus Pie, a “plug and play” personalised marketing technology service.

Beginning his career as a WPP fellow in 2009, Steer has crammed plenty in in just a few short years, having worked in advertising, digital strategy and analytics across three continents. He joined Maxus from digital content agency Fabric, where he was responsible for overall product strategy and worked on clients including Samsung, Glaxo-Smith-Kline, Heineken and News International.

Steer has previously developed data strategy for sectors including automotive, beverage, charity, consumer goods, financial, higher education, pharmaceuticals, public and telecommunications.

As chief strategy officer, Steer will work closely with UK chief executive Nick Baughan and his remit will be to build on Maxus’ data-driven and technology-led approach.

Baughan said: “We are promoting an exceptional talent who is truly one of our industry’s brightest and best and who has helped shape Maxus over the last two years.”
