Dave Gurney steps down at Alchemetrics after 22 years

Dave Gurney, CEO, AlchemetricsAlchemetrics chief executive Dave Gurney is leaving his role after 22 years with the business, just five months after it was acquired by customer engagement, data and personalisation platform Xtremepush.

Founded in 2014 in Dublin, where it has its HQ, Xtremepush has offices in the UK, US, and Eastern Europe. In early 2018, the business also completed the acquisition of UK email service provider Emailcenter.

Back in June when the deal was completed, co-founder Tommy Kearns said: “Acquiring Alchemetrics represents a significant step forward for Xtremepush, hugely expanding the range of services we can provide clients. The expertise that Alchemetrics brings to the table in this regard is unrivalled. Its team has been at the cutting-edge of innovative customer data solutions for over 20 years.”

Alchemetrics was launched by former Transactics chief Francis Wallinger in 1996. Gurney, joined the business in 1998 as a developer and worked his way up through the company. Gurney was appointed CEO in July 2011 and oversaw the expansion of the business, which opened a Lithuanian office in 2108.

However, Wallinger resigned in December 2019 and it seems Gurney has decided his future also lies elsewhere.

On LinkedIn, he wrote: “After 20+ years I’ve made a really difficult decision to now move on. Although we’re in really uncertain times I needed a reset mentally after selling the business and recover from what has been a hell of a final ride over the past three years.

“I’m lucky enough to be able to take the rest of the year to find my mojo again and to prepare for whatever exciting journey lay ahead. I leave behind many friends who have been part of my life for so long and can’t thank them enough for everything over that time…especially for the laughs and memories created.

“The pandemic has been cruel to so many but as long as the change is embraced positively I’m certain exciting opportunities are ahead.”

“Now to my future – I’ll be free from the start of December for contract/perm roles in a hands on technical/development, strategic, leadership or operational capacity around data, transformation and loyalty and would love a chat to anyone either to simply catch-up or to chat through any help you may need.

“For now, take it easy, stay safe and healthy for one final push through to the other side of this frustrating pandemic!”

It is not known whether Xtremepush is hunting a successor.
