Harvey Nicks recruits Google chief

Harvey Nicks recruits Google chiefHarvey Nichols is planning to ramp up its digital and CRM activity with the appointment of former Google industry manager for luxury retail Kerem Atasoy as head of digital marketing.
Reporting directly to Harvey Nichols group marketing and creative director Shadi Halliwell, Atasoy will be in charge of all digital marketing and CRM as well as the group’s social media team.
He has been at Google since 2007, joining as an industry analyst. In 2009, he was promoted to associate industry manager for telcos and two years later set up Google’s luxury retail practice in the UK, leading relationships with global luxury advertisers, including Burberry, Gucci and Net-a-Porter. Atasoy was most recently head of brand solutions for Youtube in Turkey and the Middle East.
Halliwell said: “Digital is integral to our plans and offers us huge potential to grow our business in the UK and internationally.
“Kerem brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise in this area, and will play an important part in driving forward Harvey Nichols digital marketing strategy.”
Harvey Nichols’ digital activity made a major impact at this year’s Cannes Lions awards, picking up the first grand prix for a UK business in the Promo & Activation category since the category was first introduced in 2006.
The campaign, by Adam & Eve DDB, promoted a new line of budget Christmas products, available online and at Harvey Nichols stores across the UK, including items such as paperclips, a luxury bag of gravel, a sink plug and a pack of wooden toothpicks. They were all presented in chic Harvey Nichols packaging, for customers to give out as presents, because they had spent all the money on themselves. The items sold out within three days.
