The leafy town of High Wycombe has come from behind to be crowned the “cheating hotspot of the UK” after topping a new table of the most adulterous places in the country.
According to an indepth data analysis by extra-marital affairs website Illicit Encounters, high property prices in the London commuter belt mean unhappy couples are increasingly looking for a bit on the side as they simply cannot afford to get a divorce.
The Buckinghamshire town has beaten off the previous leader Maidenhead, which has been pushed down to sixth.
Some 2.12% of High Wycombe’s population are looking for a fling, or 2,119 people out of a total population of 120,256, with Guildford, Aldershot, Beeston and Cumbernauld in Scotland making up the top five.
Maidenhad slips to sixth in the league, with Runcorn, Ashford, Taunton, and Newcastle-under-Lyme completing the top ten.
The most faithful town in the UK is Brentwood in Essex, shattering the myth that Essex girls – and boys – are promiscuous.
Illicit Encounters spokesman Christian Grant said: “We are increasingly popular in commuter towns like High Wycombe, Guildford, Maidenhead and Ashford. They are doing a lot more than just twitching curtains in Acacia Avenue. Spiralling house prices have made divorce increasingly difficult for many couples.
“They are struggling along unhappily because they simply cannot afford to set up two homes. We provide an outlet for men and women who would have an affair whether we were there or not.”
