Mendelsohn scoops Diageo role

Mendelsohn scoops Diageo roleFacebook UK boss Nicola Mendelsohn has landed a non-executive director role at drinks giant Diageo, in addition to carrying out her duties at the social network giant.
UK vice-president Mendelsohn – formerly executive chairman of Karmarama – was hired by Facebook last year to spearhead its European and Middle Eastern marketing operation, with a brief to boost relationships with agencies and clients.
However, her Diageo appointment suggests that her relationship with the alcohol giant has become stronger than most, although it is not known how much time she will devote to the role.
Since joining Facebook in May last year, Mendelsohn has become the “friendly face” of the social media company, which continues to court controvery over its data privacy practices.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast earlier this year, she jumped to the defence of Facebook’s data record, maintaining: “The most important thing for us is to co-operate to make sure our users are very, very confident in the platform and very confident in how we protect their data.”
Under Mendelsohn’s leadership, Karmarama boosted its direct marketing offering by first buying Crayon, in January 2012, and last year hiring Proximity creative chief Caitlin Ryan.
