Disgraced telemarketing firm Reactiv Media has refused to take its troubles lying down – despite being booted by the DMA and battered by the ICO – after signing as the main shirt sponsor for Halifax Rugby League.
Unbowed by recent controversies, owner Tony Abbott has extended the firm’s sponsorship deal by a further 12 months, meaning the Reactiv brand will appear on both the home and away shirts until 2015.
Halifax, one of the oldest rugby league clubs in the country, is currently vying for promotion to the Super League and aims to use the deal to offer its fanbase Reactiv services.
Whether they know about its track record of making nuisance calls is another matter. Earlier this year, Reactiv was kicked out of the DMA for persistently calling people registered on the Telephone Preference Service; three months later it was clobbered with a £50,000 fine by the ICO for the same offence.
But in his local community, Abbott is viewed as something of a local hero, regularly appearing in the regional press and dishing out business advice. He is also the majority shareholder of the rugby league club.
Abbott said: “I am delighted to be principal sponsor for the third year running and it shows that Reactiv are as keen as ever to support the local clubs. With the new era we are about to enter we wanted to continue with the support we have shown and give the club some stability through this time.
“We all like to be winners and Reactiv want to be a part of this with Halifax and I really want to see if we can all achieve our goals.”
Halifax’s commercial director Craig Poskitt added: “We would like to thank Tony for his continued support for next season, without doubt the 2015 season is the most important and exciting time in the club’s recent history, with the opportunity of promotion to Super League our partnership with Reactiv Media is vital to our success.
“This season we will be working with Tony and his team to offer our fanbase and corporate partners the opportunity to take up Reactiv’s ever growing portfolio of products, whether this be saving money on your day to day utility bills or even planning your funeral plan I am sure Reactiv will be able to help.”
