Shelter homes in on media shop Beyond after review

Housing and homelessness charity Shelter has reappointed independent agency Beyond to handle its media account – which it has held since 2019 – following a statutory pitch process.

Over the past six years, Beyond and Shelter have spearheaded sector-leading marketing and communications campaigns, including the 2021 “Fight For Home” brand relaunch, which delivered an 11% increase in consideration to support.

Beyond has also become a specialist in political campaigning for the charity, using hyper-targeted media to pinpoint policymakers and opinion formers. By placing ads in unconventional locations, Beyond has ensured the housing emergency remains a priority for those in power.

Their work together has been recognised with multiple industry accolades, including gold at the 2022 Media Week Awards for Media Innovation, and a gold at the 2022 Outdoor Media Awards for Effectiveness.

Based in London’s Bermondsey, Beyond operates worldwide, with clients including Alzheimer’s Research UK, Sprite, FindMyPast, itsu, and Premier Foods.

Shelter director of campaigns, policy and communications Mairi MacRae said: “We are excited to be continuing our partnership with Beyond, utilising their expertise to help us campaign for an end to the housing emergency. With soaring private rents and a severe shortage of genuinely affordable social homes, more families are being pushed to the brink of homelessness. We’re committed to fighting for everyone’s right to a safe and secure home and look forward to building on years of collaboration to help deliver this mission.”

Beyond partner for media, data and effectiveness Ed Cox added: “Working with Shelter is a privilege that everyone at Beyond feels deeply. While we have made great strides together over the last few years, the UK’s housing emergency needs to remain a priority for all. This is as much a test of our imagination and data smarts, as it is our media expertise – and it’s just the kind of challenge that we love.”
