Those people who are plunged into deep despair today, the third working Monday of January, are more likely to trawl the web for adult products to give them a lift, according to an indepth analysis of online behaviour.
So says performance marketing specialist Webgains, which studied historical data from 2,000 online retailers, and discovered that sex toys and lingerie were among the most popular selling items on Blue Monday 2016 – a feat which the company expects will be repeated in 2017.
According to Webgains’ data, within the top selling items on Blue Monday 2016 were the Rose Gold Mini Vibrator and the Sexy Lace Plunge Bra from Ann Summers (pictured), with demand for sex toys and lingerie doubling the demand for sportswear and trebling demand for tech items.
Webgains chief executive Richard Dennys said: “Blue Monday comes when most consumers are experiencing the post-holiday slump or already given up on their New Year’s resolutions.
“Brands that offer products that pamper and indulge should be making the most of Blue Monday through their online promotional activity.”
