Betway pushes punters to WSL in international break

Betway has launched a digital campaign that takes aim at two familiar football fan frustrations – international breaks and VAR – to help supporters find a live match to watch while the Premier League is on a break for the UEFA Nations League group stage.

Fronted by creator Savage Dan as the tongue-in-cheek CEO of VARfree Getaways, a launch film introduces the idea, while a dedicated website helps supporters find nearby lower-league and WSL fixtures where they can get their football fix without a video review.

The work is part of Betway’s Save The Game content series, which asks fans and creators how they would improve football. This time, there is somewhere for fans to go and watch it.

The film is live on Betway UKI’s Instagram account while The VARfree Getaways website will be live until October 6.

This summer, Betfair launched a major campaign ahead of the Fifa World Cup under the strapline “Everyone’s got an opinion. Back yours”, which leant into the idea that football fans never truly agree on anything.

Created by the agency Pablo London, the TV ad starred comedian Tom Davis travelling through a series of nostalgic football vignettes, including Diego Maradona’s infamous 1986 “Hand of God” as well as showing him climbing over awkwardly drawn, dodgy VAR lines and debating tactics at a local pub called “The Bet & Fair”.
