Argos site goes tits up hours after Xmas ad breaks

argosIt is the stuff of nightmares, just as your Christmas ad breaks your website collapses; sadly for Argos it has become all too real after the retailer’s online shop went offline over the weekend, just hours after its ‘Just can’t wait’ TV spot broke on Friday night.
The campaign, created by CHI & Partners, is – according to marketing director Stephen Vowles – designed to both capture consumer emotion around Christmas and position Argos’ service options. It features snowboaders and skiers whizzing down a mountainside surrounded by snowmobiles and snowbuggies piled high with gifts.
However, customers keen to whizz to the Argos website on Sunday were greeted with an error message, saying access had been blocked because of a “high volume of visitors”.
The site is now back after what is believed to have been an internal fault affecting the site on Sunday. In a statement Argos said: “We are extremely sorry for the temporary service issues our customers were experiencing on our website this afternoon. We have identified and fixed the issue and our site is now up and running.
“We apologise to any customer who has tried to contact us unsuccessfully today and we are working to respond to all enquiries as soon as we can.”
Last year, Argos’s website suffered issues for nearly 48 hours following a revamp of the site.
