Just Eat appoints Claire Pointon to top business role

Claire_PointonJust Eat has gone for data-driven marketing experience to appoint its new managing director for the UK and Ireland, drafting in former John Lewis and Dixons chief Claire Pointon to lead the online food delivery business.

Having started her career in 1997 at Carphone Warehouse as promotions manager, Pointon moved to Deutsche Telecom as marketing manager, before becoming head of customer loyalty and then vice-president of brand consumer experience for Europe.

She then spent nearly four years leading marketing and innovation at Kerry Foods before returning to Dixons Carphone (now Dixons) in 2012, ultimately becoming chief customer and commercial officer.

Pointon joined John Lewis in February 2020 as omnichannel director, taking on the role of customer director within three months.

At Just Eat, she will succeed Andrew Kenny, who was appointed chief commercial officer last year.

Pointon said: “Online food delivery is increasingly becoming a part of our daily lives, with more customers than ever looking for convenience and choice online.

“The passion from the team for leading the industry, our customers and partners is clear to see and I’m looking forward to leading the UK and Ireland’s next phase of the journey.”

Founded in Denmark and now headquartered in the UK, Just Eat has been one of the pioneers of the data-driven approach since it launched in 2001, embracing machine learning and AI virtually from the off.

It scales its data analytics capabilities and personalises its offerings using Google Cloud and ingests 250 million events per day in real-time and has increased the overall amount of data it can make available to its teams from 39 terabytes to 930 terabytes.
