Blippar global head of experience strategy Omaid Hiwaizi has left the augmented reality business after nearly three years to launch his own consultancy, which will target the tech sector.
Although exact details of the new venture have yet to be revealed, it is understood that it will concentrate on the blockchain market, offering start-ups advice on how to define their brand and communications as well as ICOs.
Hiwaizi has held a number roles at Blippar since joining the company from Geometry Global as president of global advertising in June 2014. However, during this time his main job has been to work with brands and agencies to invent the next generation of marketing engagement using AR and AI. Blippar has so far received nearly £79m in investment since it launched in 2010 and at one point was valued at £1.1bn, although it is still to make a profit.
Having studied Maths at Cambridge University, Hiwaizi started his career as a creative, designing i-D magazine. In 1995, he co-founded direct marketing agency Hubbard Hiwaizi McCann, as creative director.
He then took on the role of director of difference, before becoming planning director. Next he co-founded interactive communications agency Crayon, which was formed from a merger with Hicklin Slade, but quit in 2008, to lead the planning department at Chemistry.
By 2011, Hiwaizi had switched to SapientNitro, spearheading marketing strategy, brand planning and digital strategy across a number of SapientNitro’s national and global clients. He joined Geometry Global in October 2013.
