Peter Riley, who at 20:20 London was one of the pioneers of digital marketing in the UK, has landed the top creative role at Facebook in the Asia Pacific region.
Riley has been based in the region since June 2012, when he became executive creative director at OgilvyOne Worldwide in Hong Kong. After six months he was promoted to regional ECD, responsible for creative leadership of 16 offices in 13 countries across O&M.
At Facebook, Riley has taken the role of head of Asia Pacific. Based in Singapore, he will be responsible for Facebook’s creative output across the region.
Riley started his career in his home city of Manchester but burst onto the UK agency scene in 2003, when he co-founded 20:20 London. It was one of the first digital agencies to fully embrace technology and won numerous awards for its viral personalisation campaigns for the likes of Channel 4.
He led the agency through rapid growth, sustained profitability and subsequent sale to Digital Marketing Group – then headed up by Ben Langdon – resulting in 20:20 becoming the UK’s largest digital agency. When Langdon left in April 2011, DMG agencies were rebranded 20:20 and split into three companies, 20:20 Agency, 20:20 Dialogue and 20:20 Technology. Riley quit in May 2012, and the group recently rebranded Jaywing.
Over his career, Riley has won more than 100 international advertising awards, including eight Cannes Lions.
On LinkedIn, Barney Loehnis, who worked with Riley in Hong Kong, said: “Peter has a great open and collaborative style which is refreshing and energising. He’s a sharer, a giver, an asker, a believer and a doer with a passion for big platform ideas, as well as a great eye for small practical detail… peppered, of course, with some northern grit that gets people thinking beyond a brief.”
