Sony Ericsson has overhauled its senior marketing team as part of plans to build a strong market share in the so-called Android market.
The move follows the appointment of Acxiom to boost the company’s customer engagement strategy, as part of a global deal to put the consumer at the heart of the brand owner’s business.
Current acting head of marketing Steve Walker will become global head of marketing while head of brand and strategy Cathy Davies assumes the role of global head of communications and public relations.
Both Walker and Davies take on the roles from within the company which they joined in 2011 and 2004 respectively.
The appointments follow a major push by Sony Ericsson to become key player in the Android market with the launch of its Xperia range, most notably the world’s first PlayStation phone, Xperia Play.
Sony Ericsson president and chief executive Bert Nordberg said: “Cathy and Steve have worked closely together on a number of highly successful operational marketing projects in recent years and bring excellent complementary skills to Sony Ericsson’s senior management team.
“As we move into the next stage of long term growth plans, they have a central role to play in delivering a brand experience that is second to none in the smartphone sector and creating lasting relationships with consumers the world over.”
