Tesco Labs chief Hickson nets top role at H&M Group

jo hicksonH&M Group is bolstering its senior technology team with the appointment of head of Tesco Labs and group innovation Jo Hickson, who has left the company – and the country – to take up a new role in Stockholm, Sweden.

Hickson had been at Tesco since 2019, leading the team which is focused on prototyping and testing new ideas in technology areas that could significantly impact both its customers and its business.

To date, the team has been responsible for innovations in areas such as IoT, voice and APIs, with the Labs team collaborating with a range of partners, start-ups and universities to help solve real world problems.

Having started her career at Tui in 1992, Hickson switched to Capital Radio in 1995 as marketing manager and then Camelot as senior product manager. By 2008, she was marketing manager at 02 UK before being appointed global product manager at Telefonica.

In 2010, Hickson switched again, taking up the role of group head of innovation at Home Retail Group and then returned to Tui in the same role. In 2018 ,she was appointed head of technology at AKQA but within a year she had joined Tesco.

Hickson starts her new role this week as director of labs at H&M.

She said: “Five years at Tesco has gone by all too quickly. I’ve loved the job, the team, the company. An absolute privilege to lead Tesco Labs and be part of Tesco Technology. I will miss our team so much. Will also be missing England too, as I head to an exciting new life in Stockholm.”
