Virgin Media O2 is helping its customers to be more environmentally friendly by partnering with loyalty specialist Kindred to give app users the chance to carbon offset their purchases.
The ‘Feel Good Shopping’ shopping feature is now available via the ‘MyO2’ app, allowing customers to gain access to deals with over 20,000 retailers while generating donations for reforestation, carbon offsetting or digital inclusion initiatives with each purchase.
App users will also be able to use the ‘My O2’ wallet feature to see how many trees their purchases have helped plant, and how much carbon they have helped to offset.
Tree-planting and carbon offsetting operations will be overseen by climate action platform Ecologi, and environmental charity Hubbub will use the donations to support the Community Calling initiative which distributes repurposed smartphones to those in need.
Virgin Media O2 marketing director Simon Valcarcel said: “The Feel Good Shopping feature is a win-win for O2 customers; at a time when people want to be more aware of their spending, they can now save money at thousands of retailers, whilst also supporting projects that protect the planet, and support communities across the country.
“It’s all part of our Better Connections Plan which aims to create a better, more connected and greener future for everyone.”
The move comes just days after Rapp was confirmed as Virgin Media O2’s customer marketing agency on one of the biggest marketing briefs in the UK, following a competitive pitch run by AAR.
