MetroBank chief nets top marketing job at Very Group

Jessica-MyersOnline shopping giant The Very Group has recruited MetroBank director of brands and marketing Jessica Myers to lead its 200-strong brand, marketing, PR and creative operations.

Myers succeeds Carly O’Brien as chief marketing officer and joins in October; O’Brien left the business in May to become vice-president of international marketing at Gymshark.

During her three years at MetroBank, Myers built the company’s first brand and marketing function, and sat on the firm’s executive committee.

She has also been credited with helping to shape the company’s brand strategy, developing transformational marketing capabilities and brand investment.

The new role will mark Myers’ first retail role, having previously worked exclusively in the financial sector for brands including NatWest and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

The Very Group managing director of retail Robbie Feather said: “Jessica is a thoughtful, commercial and impactful marketer and leader, with deep consumer experience.

“She’s exactly the right person to lead our marketing team at a time when UK families are increasingly on the lookout for the convenience, flexibility and value Very provides.”

Myers added: “Very has become one of the most recognisable digital retailers in the UK in recent years.

“It has a strong and differentiated brand, a hugely relevant customer proposition combining multicategory shopping with flexible ways to pay, and amazing opportunities for growth. I can’t wait to meet the team and start making a difference for Very and our customers.”

The Very Group’s heritage dates back to the launch of the UK mail order giants, including Littlewoods, the Liverpool pools and retail group founded by John Moores, as well as Great Universal Stores and Kays Catalogues.

It now describes itself as “the UK’s largest pureplay digital retailer” and financial services provider, with annual revenues of £2bn and over 4 million customers.
