sparConvenience store group Spar UK is launching an all-in-one mobile payment, loyalty and coupon app after signing a deal with global insights and loyalty platform Zapper starting in the South West this month.
The retail group is implementing the programme in Plymouth and Exeter before expanding across Spar’s 2,700 stores nationwide. It works by shoppers scanning a QR code at the till and payment, including voucher redemption and loyalty card updates, are seamlessly processed in just a few seconds.
According to Zapper’s own figures, 46% of Zapper’s customers have used the app in convenience stores around the UK since launch in December 2016.
Spar UK retail director Ian Taylor said: “We are focused on offering excellent customer service. Working with Zapper means that customers are motivated to shop at Spar rather than at a competitor store. Our customers have many great reasons to shop with us and there are enormous benefits to retaining and rewarding them.
“We continue to develop modern convenience stores and Zapper mobile payment rewards loyalty and enables our customers to pay for their goods faster, which, in turn, will encourage repeat use in store.”
Zapper claims that its solution also not only enables retailers to understand shoppers to build a more efficient and profitable business but asists brands to further understand consumer purchase trends and basket data. It is already working with Coca-Cola and Birdseye.
Zapper UK retaild director Jon Birt said: “[This deal] will further assist retailers in understanding today’s convenience shopper’s needs, all delivered by the ease of quick mobile payments. With the average shopper spending £8.47 when they pay with the app, it is clear Zapper is transforming the way shoppers pay and receive rewards.”
