Daily Mail insight boss Ian Thomas quits for Samsung

ian thomas 1Daily Mail data insight chief Ian Thomas has quit the newspaper group after just a year to take up a senior planning role at tech giant Samsung.
Thomas, who ran one of the direct marketing industry’s leading recruitment consultancies for nearly 14 years, joined the Mail last October to oversee the development of its analytics team.
During his time he replaced external analytics consultancy with in-house team, a move which saved the business over £300,000 in budget. Thomas also implemented a compliance programme to ensure the group adheres to the upcoming GDPR legislation across the full Daily Mail portfolio. The company has 10 million customers who receive up to 50 messages a month.
Meanwhile he also conducted in-depth review of the Mail’s supplier portfolio, appointing a raft of suppliers to handle its CRM workflow
Thomas had joined the Mail from Velocity Programs, having finally stepped down from Jobsworth in April last year.
At Samsung, where Thomas will take up the role of senior data planner, he will be operational lead on the company’s data centric digital marketing transformation programme.
Wunderman recently scooped Samsung Electronic’s CRM and loyalty marketing activity across Europe, beating off competition from DigitasLBi and Havas Helia.
The agency’s remit includes strategy, communications, campaign management and deployment for Samsung’s CRM and loyalty activity, with the objective of driving better customer experiences and unlocking customer value.
The UK account is handled by Iris, and was not affected by the Wunderman appointment.
