Top data and digital roles to drive Medialab expansion

medialabMedialab has created two top-level roles as part of its strategy to put digital and data to the core of the agency’s offering on the back of a raft of account wins.

Moving up from chief planning officer, Will Davis (right) becomes the agency’s first chief data officer, while former Merkle and Performics business director Eleanor Hill (left) assumes the new role of director of digital performance.

Davis joined Medialab in 2011 as group planning director and will continue to develop and lead Medialab’s data service, product and expertise, as well as its marketing intelligence platform, Apollo.

Apollo sits at the heart of how Medialab helps its partners gain and build valuable customers, by maximising the effectiveness of campaigns. Since joining, he has been instrumental in building the Medialab data-driven planning proposition, which has led to major client wins and significant year on year growth.

Meanwhile, Hill will play a vital leadership role in accelerating and broadening the digital capability within the business. She brings strong digital marketing, media and operations experience, spanning a successful career at specialist digital performance and search agency, Periscopix (that evolved into Merkle), Performics, and Zenith, where she led some of the largest performance clients including Next, Aviva, Toyota, Oracle, RBS and Entertainment One.

Most recently Eleanor led the marketing, media and commerce propositions for Low Profile, the business owned by Dragons’ Den star Touker Suleyman.

The move follows a series of new account wins this year, including Mind, WWF-UK Events, and finance firm Zopa.

The continued push to develop data and digital capabilities comes from a desire to help its partners fully understand the value of their marketing.

Medialab chief executive Marcus Orme said: “Introducing the role of CDO says a lot about our strategic direction, for which we have the fullest confidence in Will to spearhead. We are also incredibly lucky to have Eleanor join the team – her deep technical knowledge and absolute commitment to collaboration and building client relationships will be an invaluable asset.”
