Primark is finally launching a UK home delivery service, nearly two decades after most of its rivals and four years after its click and collect service, following the purchase of an automated fulfilment facility in Sheffield.
The move, which was dismissed following media reports earlier this year, comes as Primark prepares to split from owner Associated British Foods (ABF). This is likely to be completed in December 2027 and is expected to create two new FTSE 100 companies, with analysts predicting that Primark could be valued at as much as £9bn, and the food division of the business £4bn.
The retailer is also expanding its partnership with Alshaya Group in the Middle East, launching outlets in Saudi Arabia, while a new deal with El Puerto de Liverpool see the business enter Mexico for the first time.
Primark chief executive Eoin Tonge said: “This is a really big day for us here, with two significant announcements: Our decision to bring home delivery to Great Britain and expanding our franchise business.”
A Primark spokesperson added: “Our stores will always be at the heart of Primark. But a lot has changed in online retail in recent years, from how customers shop and their expectations for online delivery. Combined with the digital progress we’ve made, and particularly the success of Click & Collect, we’re confident the time is right to give customers in Great Britain even more choice in how they shop with us.”
Earlier this week, the value retailer launched its activewear collection, Primark Form, with a new campaign designed to debunk the seriousness of the world of activewear and prove consumers do not have to pay seriously high prices to get seriously great kit.
Created by VCCP, “That’s Kinda Game-Changing” follows on from recent campaigns, “The Get Away” and “Shockingly Chic” and is the latest chapter of the “That’s So Primark” brand platform.
