Brits net 15 Cannes Direct finalists

Brits net 15 Cannes Direct finalistsThe Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity may be an irrelevance to many, but those who do take it all very seriously will be pleased to know that UK agencies have grabbed 15 finalists out of a 256-strong shortlist for the 2015 Direct Lions – matching last year’s number.
Not that it is all good news for DM shops, as ad agency Publicis London has secured the most nominations in the category with three finalist slots for its ‘Spot 4 Sale’ work for youth homelessness charity Depaul UK.
At least OgilvyOne London has put in a decent showing for the DM agency community by being shortlisted twice for its ‘Looking for You’ outdoor campaign for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, in which a dog on a digital billboard appeared to follow shoppers at Westfield Stratford as they strolled past.
Saatchi & Saatchi London – another ad agency – has also been shortlisted twice for its ‘Get Me a Sponsor’ work for Chelsea Football Club and Grey London – yep, you guessed it – received two for ‘Lifepaint’ for Volvo.
Meanwhile Wunderman London, TBWA\London, AIS London, McCann London, and Leo Burnett London all scraped on the list with one each.
US agencies lead the field in the category with 50 finalists, followed by France on 25, Brazil on 21, Germany 19, Spain 17 and Australia 14.
