DunnHumby appoints Reward boss as Bottomley quits

Tesco-owned data and media giant DunnHumby, which powers both the Clubard loyalty programme and the Tesco Media & Insight Platform, has appointed Reward chief executive Jamie Samaha as its new CEO with a brief to scale and strengthen its role in supporting retailers and brands.

Samaha will join the customer data science company on July 20 succeeding Josh Bottomley, who is stepping down after three years in the role. Bottomley will remain with the business until mid-July to support a smooth handover.

Samaha has been chief executive of Reward, the customer engagement, data insights and commerce media company, since September 2023 where he led the business through a significant period of growth.

Before that, he served as group CEO of Australian fintech company Prezzee, where he expanded the business across the UK and US. Earlier in his career, he held the role of executive vice president of consumer engagement services at Mastercard.

DunnHumby has been at the forefront of Tesco’s data-driven marketing strategy for nearly three decades, helping to develop and then launch the Clubcard loyalty scheme back in 1995, which is now used by more than 23 million households. The company is also the driving force behind Tesco’s Media & Insight Platform division. Launched in 2021, the retail media network allows brands and advertising agencies to target consumers and measure ad campaigns through a raft of channels, including instore digital screens and online.

Tesco group chief executive Ken Murphy said: “We are delighted to welcome Jamie as the new chief executive of DunnHumby.

“His strong track record of commercial execution combined with his experience at the intersection of data, loyalty, media and customer engagement makes him ideally placed to build on the progress of recent years and scale Dunnhumby’s impact for retailers and brands globally.”

Samaha added: “Dunnhumby has an exceptional heritage, outstanding talent and deep partnerships with many of the world’s leading retailers and brands.

“Retail and consumer markets are evolving rapidly, and few companies are better placed than DunnHumby to help clients navigate that change and unlock growth. I’m excited to join the team and build on the strong momentum as we shape the next chapter of Dunnhumby’s growth together.”
