John Treacy joins agency Zeal to head up creative team

john_treacy2Former MRM executive creative director John Treacy has joined brand activation agency Zeal as the business scales up for growth.

Launched in 2014 by ex-Blue Chip Marketing creative chief Stewart Hilton and head of planning Robert White, Zeal has expanded from its sales promotion roots, and now has 80 staff based at two offices in Manchester and London.

Treacy left MRM last summer and was effectively succeeded by chief creative officer Ioana Filip, who joined in August.

Having started his career as a freelance graphic designer in 1994, Treacy joined Joshua in 1996, then switched to AIS London in 2000, where, along with creative partner Dan Colley, he won industry plaudits for work on Seeboard Energy (now EDF), as well as Skoda, BMW and O2.

The pair quit in 2003 to join the launch team at Elvis. Colley left in 2006 and now works at VCCP Retail. Treacy was lured by Proximity London in 2013 to succeed Caitlin Ryan and stepped down in June 2020 following the merger of Proximity and Rapp. He joined MRM in January 2021.

At Zeal, he will be ECD and report to Hilton and White. Treacy will work across the agency’s client base, which includes Kellogg’s, Carlsberg, McCain, Arla Foods, Brew City, Pringles and Imperial Leather.

Hilton, who said the agency had followed Treacy’s work with an “envious eye”, added: “As we scale up Zeal, we need creative leadership that understands the ever-changing media landscape from a firm footing of effectiveness. John’s mission is to be a catalyst for the whole agency; inspiring everyone in Zeal to innovate to deliver bigger and better campaigns for our world-leading clients.”

Treacy flagged up the crucial role that data, technology and creativity can play to deliver “spectacular results”. He added: “Zeal has some amazing clients and a long-held commitment to effectiveness. I’m relishing the chance to help the creative team to innovate more, to think bigger and to deliver an even larger impact for our clients.”
