Kingfisher appoints its first head of data monetisation

Kingfisher, the home improvement retail giant which owns B&Q, Screwfix and TradePoint in the UK, is aiming to tap into its huge banks of customer data by appointing its first head of data monetisation.

Former DunnHumby executive Jez Collins takes up the role with immediate effect, joining from Colateral, where he has been retail media director since December 2022.

Collins has extensive sector experience, having headed the Tesco retail media account at DunnHumby, managing the total UK partnership with the supermarket giant.

Kingfisher’s retail media network initially launched in France in June 2023, expanding across B&Q and Screwfix in December 2023.

Powered by CitrusAd, it offers third-party brands targeted on-site ecommerce advertising, digital video formats, personalised product recommendations, and in-store displays using data from one billion customer visits.

Collins will be responsible for transforming these data assets into measurable financial value and will be reunited with former DunnHumby colleague Simon Jury, who joined Kingfisher in January last year as chief data officer.

On LinkedIn, Collins said: “We have a huge opportunity ahead to use data to create better customer experiences across Europe, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and working with the brilliant team here to help shape what comes next! Here’s to the next chapter.”

Collins’ appointment comes as B&Q has appointed a new director of retail media. Laura Karsunky joins from Amazon, where she spent more than a decade in senior leadership roles.

Karsunky said: “There’s a real opportunity to build on the strong foundations already in place and continue developing a retail media proposition that creates value for both customers and our supplier and brand partners. I’m looking forward to working with the team to drive the next phase of growth.”
