The Rapp UK management team of Marco Scognamiglio and Sam Nolan find themselves with a new boss after Omnicom revealed former Wunderman Worldwide senior executive Alexei Orlov as its new global chief executive.
Reporting directly to DAS Group chairman Dale Adams, Orlov succeeds Bob Horvath, who will switch to the role of chairman at the group.
The Rapp network spans 30 different countries, with clients including Virgin Media, Best Buy, Air France and Disney. Under Scognamiglio and Nolan (both pictured with Orlov) the UK agency has undergone a major transformation over the past two years, shipping in a number of senior staff and overhauling its structure since chief executive Pete Mitchell’s departure in the summer of 2012.
Earlier this month Rapp bought shopper and promotional marketing agency Haygarth, although it scotched reports that fellow DAS agency TBCH had been folded into the business. This week it has created the roles of joint executive planning directors. The first post goes to Rob Reason, who has been working as a consultant at the agency for 10 months, having been at Virgin Media and Rapier. Meanwhile Shiona McDougall has been promoted from her role as a strategy director. She was previously the group marketing director at Harper Collins and the marketing director for Virgin Wines.
Orlov started his career at Paperchase and WH Smith in 1984 as planning and merchandise director before moving to Avon Cosmetics as UK marketing chief in 1988. He then joined Volvo Cars but switched agency-side to WPP-owned MCW and ROCQM in 1996.
Orlov remained at WPP until 2008, holding a number of senior roles at Wunderman Worldwide, including executive vice-chairman. Two years at Draft FCB followed until he took up his most recent role of chief marketing officer for Greater China & South East Asia, at Volkswagen.
Adams said: “Alexei brings nearly three decades of experience as a global specialism in brand architecture, cross-cultural marketing deployment and operational change management.
“I am confident that his well-known passion for bringing together dynamic teams to support and make a difference for clients of all sizes, as well as his proven capabilities as a client- and agency-side leader, business strategist and branding expert, will add enormous value to Rapp and, most importantly, its worldwide portfolio of clients.”
