Tesco reprises ‘Clubcard Prices’ in fresh swipe at rivals

clubcard again1Tesco is ramping up the supermarket loyalty wars with the launch of a new round of “Clubcard Prices”, which sees discounts of up to 50% on hundreds of groceries – from Birds Eye to McCain – for Clubcard members.

Shoppers can find out what discounts are available by checking for the deals on the retailer’s website, with half price items including Dr Oetker Ristorante Mozzarella pizza at £1.25, vanilla flavoured Carte D’Or ice cream for £1.75, and a pack of six Magnum minis at £1.90.

Shoppers can save £1.10 on a box of 20 Birds Eye Omega 3 fish fingers, which normally cost £3.10 but have been reduced to £2 for Clubcard holders. Customers can save £1 on a 1.4kg bag of McCain’s french fries.

The deals bonanza was first launched to mark the retail giant’s 100th anniversary – in April last year – when Tesco ran discounts of up to 50% off on selected items. This was repeated just after Christmas with the launch of a huge January sale, with hundreds of deals and special prices for its 19 million Clubcard members.

Speaking at the launch of the latest promotion, Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said: “We know that great value matters to customers more than ever before, that’s why, to reward our loyal customers, we’re offering everyone with a Tesco Clubcard access to hundreds of exclusive deals.

“We’re also offering everyday low prices on hundreds of products so that customers can get clear and consistent prices on the products they buy regularly.”

Last week, Tesco revealed it is trialing grocery home deliveries with drones in Ireland, through a partnership with Manna, which already has a licence to operate.

The supermarket giant said that it has four innovation priority areas: data; food and drink products and technology; robotics and automation; and packaging.
